Day Three

That morning we woke up late. Half an hour late. My roommates and I thought we missed breakfast, but then the teacher in charge of the trip called our room and she would come check our room before we could go to breakfast. We were relieved to find out we weren't going to be late.
Mount Vernon Plantation

After breakfast we loaded all of our luggage on the bus and headed to the Mount Vernon Plantation. (George Washington's house). We walked through all the buildings on the plantation, they had decorated the house just like George Washington had it. We then walked to the grave site where Washington and his family was buried. Then we walked a little farther into the woods behind his house and visited the grave site of Washington's slaves. The plaque read, "In memory of the Afro Americans who served as slaves at Mount Vernon This monument marking their burial ground dedicated September 21, 1983 Mount Vernon Ladies' Association"
Next we walked around the gift shop and museum, there were lots of wax statues of Washington and his horses.

Next we went to lunch about 11:30 at the Capital Visitor Center Cafe and then we had a tour of Capital Hill. No pictures allowed. :( We got to meet one of the Idaho senators, I don't remember which one; we got to ask him whatever we wanted. That lasted a lot longer then we thought so we were almost late to our next destination. While we were on our way there it started to rain, it was only sprinkling at first, but then it came down in big drops. It stopped raining by the time we left.
At about 4:30 we arrived at Ford's theatre to see a presentation about Lincoln's assassination. They had the balcony all decorated with flags and pictures for Lincoln when he arrived; and John Wilkes Booth (Lincoln's assassinater) got the spur caught on the flag after he shot Lincoln, and he fell and broke his leg.
Unfortunately, we didn't get to see the Peterson house, that's where they took the president after he got shot, because of the line out the door.
Then we went to dinner at the nastiest Mexican restaurant ever. It was seriously the grossest food I had ever eaten. After dinner our driver took us to the train station in DC, I cannot remember the name of it for the life of me, anyway, he took us there so we could get cupcakes. They were HUGE! I got a grasshopper one, but don't worry, there were no actual grasshoppers in it, it was a mint and chocolate cupcake, and it was delicious!
After everyone had gotten what they wanted, we loaded the bus again, and began a two hour bus ride to Gettysburg. We arrived at the hotel at around nine. Dancer was bouncing off the walls, being ridiculously silly, it was definitely entertaining. After we got her calmed down enough to shower and go to bed, we didn't actually go to sleep for awhile. That was one of the best moments that day.
