Day One

As many of you know, I went on a week long trip to Washington DC and New York a month ago. And now I am FINALLY going to tell you all about it.

Day One:

I got up at 3:00 AM to get ready to leave for the airport. Dancer picked me up at 4:30 and we arrived at the airport 45 minutes later. When everyone showed up, we started to check our luggage, that was about 5:00.

Ginger being cool at the
Spokane Airport. :P
Checking luggage took FOREVER! At 5:20ish, we went through security and up to our gate. We boarded around 6:30 AM, the flight to Denver lasted about two hours.
When we landed in Colorado, it was 10:35, so we went to the food court for breakfast/lunch.
At 11:00 we boarded the plane to Washington DC. Which lasted four hours. When we landed at 5:00 PM local time, we immediately collected our bags, changed into shorts, and boarded the bus.
The second we walked out of the airport, we got blasted with humid, hot, and heavy air. Definitely hard to breathe in.
We met our tour guide, Doc, by his bus; he was definitely an interesting man. He was a stereotypical Black man, he over enunciated certain words or syllables, beyond any doubt: funny. He pronounced Idaho, Ida-HO! and instead of explain, it was 'splain. He called us 'Beautiful people,' 'Young people,' and 'Lovely people.' He also liked to talk. Talk, talk, talk, talk, talk.
For dinner, we went to a place called Hamburger Hamlet. They served us salad, pasta, meatballs, chicken, and a cookie. I didn't have the chicken. That was about 6:30 PM. I ate with Dancer, Ginger, and H.

After that, we began our night tour. The first monument we stopped at was the FDR Memorial and the Martin Luther King Jr Memorial. The walls at both memorials had quotes indented in them. At the FDR Memorial there were quotes like, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." There were also statues there that showed things like people standing in lines for food, and a person listening to a "Fireside Chat." There were also four waterfalls, one for each room, placed around the memorial.
At the MLK Jr Memorial, there was a huge statue of him. (It looked like he was encased in carbonite). On one side of the statue it said, "Out of a mountain of despair, a stone of hope."
Then we went to the Korean War Memorial where we saw statues of, what I remember, are 49 soldiers. The Lincoln Memorial, around the top of the building were the names of all the US states and territories. The statue of Lincoln is 19 ft tall!
Next we went to the Vietnam War Memorial, where they engraved every single person's name that died on a marble wall; what a sight.

On our way to the Jefferson Memorial, Dancer threw up. All over herself. It was nasty. After it was cleaned up, everyone else when to the memorial, she stayed back and changed her clothes. She then joined us at the Iwo Jima Memorial. Which is a monument for Pearl Harbor. It has 6 men raising an American flag, showing the day the American troops captured the Japanese island of Iwo Jima. There is a legend that says, if you look, you can see thirteen hands, instead of the predicted twelve. It's said the extra hand is the hand of God, helping the soldiers.
By then, it was about 11:00, we were all tired and sticky. It had been a long day. We drove to the hotel, showered, and went to bed.
